Not true with the Logitech TrackMan Marble FX (the original model

almost as good as a mouse.

Thanks. Oh I know another problem with trackball. You keep your
thumbs fixated and move ball with /just/ 2 or 3 fingers. Just
these few middle fingers
are weak and inaccurate compared to moving the traditional mouse
with your entire hand. You have a nice solid stronger controlled
grip with traditional mouse IMHO.

I've been using trackballs for many years. My current favorite is the Logitec Marble Mouse. It is optical, has 3 buttons and most importantly, is ambidextrous (I'm left-handed). I've looked longingly at the Kensington trackballs, but being a CB, I just can't see dropping a Franklin on a pointing device.

The Marble Mouse requires very little effort. I use a wristpad, and while I touch the ball with a couple of fingers, I move my whole hand when using it. I have the acceleration cranked up so that only small movements are needed. I find this much more comfortable than a mouse.

However, the reason I started using trackballs many years ago was not because of comfort. I had just started my business, and my desk was always so piled high with paperwork and other stuff that a mousepad (no optical mice back then) would quickly get buried. I could just flop the trackball on top of everything and continue working. :-)
