The big question that came up was about djbdns's logging. The system in question was gentoo. The setup from gentoo has djbdns logging to /etc. This is a very nonstandard setup. I recommended looking into splogger. djbdns writes its logs to STDOUT (or STDERR, I forget which). splogger will take those logs and send them to syslog for syslog processing. splogger is shipped with qmail.
