Indeed, now that you mention it, I remember something about that in the Pyramid special I watched.
I remembered the graffiti part, but apparently not the forgery part.

The show probably didn't mention the forgery side, as it was pretty much swept under the carpet decades ago. Remember most "antiquarians", as archaeologists were called back then, were really out for one thing: treasure. But I suspect that modern day archaeologists, more than other scientists, loathe to admit the possibility that much of what they call established scientific fact may actually be bullshit. In this case, it may be a case of "Tell a lie often enough...".
