Sure are. I know a couple of shops that have one guy who spends most of their time doing backups. But, these are large Bioinformatics shops that had a few dozen terabytes to backup. I am not just talking about "doing" the backups and moving tapes in and out of the very large library, but designing, purchasing, installing, tuning and optimizing, replacing, planning for migrations, etc. This involves the libraries, the servers, the networks, the software, the tape rotation strategy, etc. These shops also run Netbackup, Solaris, and Oracle.

Are there jobs out there where there are people dedicated to the task of doing backups? -todd -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
