I'm getting a Kernel Panic on a machine - so who better to ask than a group with that name? Also, I am a total noob when it comes to Linux Administration. I've used Lin for some time but usually have an admin to help me when stuff like this happens.
I have 2 identical Dell Poweredge SC420 machines and have put FC 3 on both. They both have SATA drives with "onboard RAID", which is disabled (for now). On one server everything's great - no errors, runs fast, stable... On the other I am having an occasional problem on boot and/or total lockup after it's been running for awhile. Here's part of the message I get on boot: --- Reading all physical volumes. This may take awhile... Couldn't find device with uuid "[...UUID omitted...]". Couldn't find all physical volumes for the volume group VolGroup00. VolGroup00 not found ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormally! mount: error 6 mounting ext3 mount: error 2 mounting none switchroot: mount failed: 22 umount /initrd/dev failed: 2 Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! --- This smells like a bad HD or bad HD connection. I've opened the case and re-seated all the wires, but this problem is still occurring. I've also tried reinstalling FC3 about 4 times now. Sometimes it works for awhile, but eventually it will always end up locking with this error on reboot. Before I run down to Fry's and pick up another hard drive I wanted to see if anyone thought this was something different or if there was another test I could run to find the problem? -Cameron ----------------- Cameron Childress Sumo Consulting Inc http://www.sumoc.com --- cell: 678.637.5072 aim: cameroncf email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
