What is it that you really want to do?
Assign IP addresses from a pool of available addresses, and
corresponding available hostnames? Like RoadRunner does, so I get IP
address 66.75.xxx.yyy and hostname cpe-66-75-xxx-yyy.san.res.rr.com

Assign fixed hostnames to clients according to their MAC addresses?
With fixed IP addresses, or IP addresses from a pool?

I think there is a lot to be learned from <
