Seriously, this particular friend is a very smart person, and spends
24/7 immersed in physics, astronomy, and math.  He reads a complete
book every three or four days (pop and non-pop).  He's *very* smart. 
For all the things that he *is* wrong about, physics, astronomy, and
math are very rarely one of them.

The jury (in my mind) is, of course, still out on whether quantum
physics is non-linear or not.  I don't understand what the hell it
means to be non-linear in physics, so I couldn't really say.  I'll
just nod my head politely.
