mmhhh, I just made a quick test. Added a host entry to /etc/hosts with a
fake hostname to 128.41.41.254 (filserver), here are the results:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ smbclient //fileserver/soporte$ -Usaaib
Password:
Domain=[ARCHIVOS] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_DUPLICATE_NAME
But, if iI try with the real name of the windows server, it works:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ smbclient //archivos/soporte$ -Usaaib
Password:
Domain=[ARCHIVOS] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]
smb: \>
both same password of course. Seems like the file server doesnt like to
be contacted using a hostname other than the one its configured in the OS.

Nothing, just a prompt
Password:
Domain=[ARCHIVOS] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]
Is that an anon login ?
If not, then it does seem that lan hasn't identified himself properly to
the the Windows system
