Hmmm, the Fender Stratocaster is one of the most reproduced body styles in
guitar history, only the Gibson Les Paul is second (if i remember
correctly).  From the headstock, all tuning pegs on one side rather than the
older more traditional 3 on each side, the 3 single coil pickups, the
non-locking bridge...
Granted that making a guitar is a major project, the neck alone is almost
impossible to get right unless you're very experienced (one slip and you
have to throw the whole thing out), but companies copy mainly two brands of
guitars and have been for many years.   They are easily reproduced if you
have the tools and the talent.  I don't think that companies put a copyright
on shapes of their guitars...It wouldn't seem that they do anyway.
