A casual glance at those scripts leads me to believe that some people

He,he ... I agree. There may be 100 of them worth examining more closely.
I just kep asking myself a more fundamental question
though. What is it that an IDE would do for me that I cannot so with vi, a bunch of windows and bash? Please those of you who use IDEs tell me. What am I missing?
