Technically, the Client is accessing the SMB resource provided by the
Server, which happens to be backed by an NTFS filesystem on the Server's
local storage. So, the client doesn't need to know a wit about NTFS, the
client only needs to know about SMB. Intentional brain damage introduced
by Microsoft aside, SMB can be leveraged as the equalizing protocol here,
as just about anything can speak it, thanks to the amazing Samba
project. :)
