I don't like either. I hate task bars, they take up my valuable screen
space. I choose Windowmaker on every system I work on. It's less
cluttered, doesn't put those damn icons on the desktop. If I want
graphical links to programs, I just drag them to the dock. If I want
none, I don't create them. I can scroll between virtual desktops with
the mouse wheel just fine. Menus are in the root window.
