It would really help if you would tell us your intended purpose which would save everyone time. A guy I used to work with liked to ask engineers who presented him with an obscure question: "What is the problem you are trying to solve?"
For what it's worth I have 2 80G external USB enclosures and I love them. I used them only for backups using Bacula. I keep one off site at all times and do backups to the other one. Once a month I swap the units. Having used floppies, tape, cdrom, DVD, I have decided that external USB drive is the way to go for backups for the vast majority of users these days.
