Andy Informative comments as usual. I agree. While I think Linus is a great programmer and project manager, I'm actually starting to think he is not God anymore. I know it is hard to believe.
He just doesn't show the same smarts when it comes to the legal and copyright issues associated with software. The BitKeeper fiasco should never have happened. This GPLv2 lock in is a tragedy. Although FSF sometimes goes too far in their zealotry for these issues, I think Linus goes too far in his indifference. We need a genetic hybrid of Linus and RMS that eliminates both extremes. chris > Linus wanted control, so he chose the > GPL *and* chose to prevent the future mutation. He forgot to allow himself the *choice* to adjust the license, > and now he is stuck. Big Time.
