It's been a long day.
My vague memory of kernel compiles was:
- add something to extraversion
- make config
- (first compile - no make clean/mrproper)
- make (vmlinuz?)
= make modules
- make install
- make modules_install
- or, make all
It's crapping out
I am _so_ tired ... and I can't find my old Red Hat notebook.
I'll see your answers in the morning.
TIA,
Here is where I refer when compiling new kernel updates for FCn:
http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc4/errata/#sn-kernel
And here is a good tutorial on the whole process:
http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/Kernel-Build-HOWTO.html
which is from here:
http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/
Between these two documents, I've had no problems with Fedora.
BTW, I've had no luck getting FC4 kernel source updates with either yum
or up2date. Maybe I don't know the magic words. Instead I just go here
http://fedora.redhat.com/Download/mirrors.html
to get them directly (for instance, here:
<ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/core/updates/4/SRPMS/>).
