I have just installed the DVD demo version of SuSE 10.0 on my computer. Although the installation completed without problem or complaint, any attempt to use X windows (startx, xinit, YAST/YAST2 video card setup) causes my computer to reboot (as root or a user). The log files in /var/log don't give a clue other than that they end right after mouse setup. The X config file seems Ok, but I havn't looked at it in great detail. I am using an ASUSP5RD1-VM motherboard which has the ATI Radon Xpress 200 for video. The motherboard CD does contain several Linux ATI drivers which (since installation didn't complain) I never installed. Even without the correct driver, shouldn't X fallback on a default similiar to what is used during installation? Tomorrow I plan to determin the correct driver and install it and see if that improves things.

BTW, when I reconfigured my old SuSE 9.0 for the new motherboard, it worked OK at
least as far a being able to initiate a KDE session under X.
