Quoting Cameron Childress <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

I have encountered a great many applications in many many languages
that "suck rocks" and are huge dogs. Some of them were CF, some PHP,
some PERL, Java, you name it. Anyone can write a dog if they don't
know what they are doing. CF is no different.

Oh I agree.. I've written some dogs myself. My note about CF though, was based on my experiences with the server.. it's a massive resource pig. Just sitting idle... and they wrote it to do some things in incredibly stupid ways.. how it handles (or did, maybe it's changed in the last 2 years) email from forms was just moronic.

The apps? They're ok, I guess. CF is a good system for people that want to be able to develop interactive web stuff, especially for those that don't know the first thing about html, cgi, etc, and don't want to. By that, I mean, I've seen a very simple form using it that could've been done in about 15 minutes in perl code and used a fraction of the resources to do the whole thing. But it did allow someone that doesn't know how to do web pages to create a page.

Of course, if you're a power user that uses all of it's features and don't just do simple pages.. that's another story. I have seen some pretty interesting webpages developed using CF.. that would've been pretty hard otherwise. Still requires way more server horsepower to do the same things though.

Having said that, every problem has an appropriate solution and CF
isn't always it. Linux isn't always the solution either.

Very true... I love my Mac powerbook. :) And being the gaming junkie I am, I still have windows for games.
