On the basis of his presentation, I went home and installed it to have another look. My last look at zope was 2001, and I found it too heavy a framework for my taste, then. But that was _ages_ ago, and evidently the rough edges have been smoothed off a lot -- at least if one (mostly) wants to replicate something like one of the predefined "standard" applications. A thought: since we are running http://kernel-panic.org/ on zope+plone, why don't we start a section (on the wiki pages?) for web developers' mutual assistance and general discussion, eh? Several of those in attendance were also interested in the alternative topic of how to deliver value to KPluggers with more interest in usage than admin matters. It was also suggested that there are still people who show up wondering "What is this Linux thing" and who get little benefit from attending the typical KP meeting. I confess that many of us forget this last point, and it is good to be reminded of it. Tracy dusted off an old idea of his that he thought offered good bang-for-the-buck: A KPlug customized live cd (eg, knoppix remastered), that could be given away, maybe even distributed at retail outlets [KPluggerEdge?]. He pointed out that media is down to the pennies-range, that knoppix is reported to be easily customized, that we could include, for example, KPlug web hooks. IMHO, this would make an excellent collaboration project, that we should start ASAP. OK, now who's going to jump in and see that all of these things get followed-through on?
