The expense of defending against the GPL is an unwarranted burden on software development houses -- and it can hurt open-source adoption, as the simplest prevention consists of a blanket prohibition.
Correct. Every VLSI design group I know of has a blanket ban on using anything GPL since it might later cause source code for a design tool to have to be released.
That having been said, I am happy that the GPL exists and is the basis for a significant chunk of open-source code. They fight the battle for freedom on a slightly different front than the BSD folks do.
Both are probably necessary. -a -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
