So if we just start doing some kind of IPv6 over IPv4 then can we
someday simply go native. Mind you I know almost nothing of IPv6
so provide some detail please.
You're in luck: there are a bunch of places that do some sort of "tunnel
brokerage" and allow you to tunnel v6 over v4. Hurricane Electric in
California (www.he.net) and xs26 (www.xs26.net -- europe -- i use these
guys 'cause they don't need proprietary software to get the tunnel
created) both offer these services.
Basic differences are that IPv6 has a 128-bit address space (v4 only has
a 32 bit address space -- There are enough IP addresses in v6 for about
one address per square meter on the planet), IPv6 has built-in QoS, and
a few other improvements and fixes for deficiencies in v4. If you want
more information, go to www.ipv6.org -- they can explain the differences
and benefits better than can I (my memory isn't what it used to be).
Enjoy! :)
