I used Eudora for years with none of the problems you describe. I then
switched to KMail, which seemed almost identical. Maybe Eudora has 
been screwed up since those days (maybe five years ago now) ... but
I suspect the real problem is that the default configuration just turns 
on too many bells and whistles.
