Malicious BGP seems to have the characteristics of a forest fire.
The problem starts in one place and spreads in all directions
like a forest fire. Also, like a forest fire it will do lots
of damage but people put the fires out eventually.

A fire might take out a chunk of San Diego but never more than
that.

But while its burning, you'd lose a large chunk of the net for hours/days. Especially if it took out a major cross-continental link or US backbone line.
