If you're running Thunderbird v1.5, you already have in-line spell
checking built in (puts squiggles under misspelled words). Tools ->
Options -> Composition -> Spelling -> Enable Spell As You Type.
That said, it wouldn't pick up ordinances because it's a valid word,
just with the wrong meaning for your context. ;)
(Then again, I suppose that "pieces of legislation enacted by a
municipal authority" have exploded quite spectacularly, at least
metaphorically.)

Thanks for the tip Josh...
I was using v1.0.6 and hadn't even noticed the version advance since it
was working very well (auto bottom cursor position and all ;^).
I made the upgrade to v.1.5.0.4 but as per usual an extension broke... I
had the Calendar feature installed and it appears that it is not yet up
to speed with the current version... Lemme dig into that further...
