All,
So, I have a name server which mainly serves as a slave to many primary name
servers. In the /var/named and /var/named/slaves directories, I have hundreds
of what appear to be zone files and fragments of zone files which have names
like the following:

db-XXhvbyOD db-XXYPXABn
db-XXHx9Wtv db-XXYsAFPU
db-XXhXi7Sy db-XXysBfcZ
db-XXHYg2QS db-XXYtr80l
db-XXHz9R3S db-XXyUA1fS
db-XXhzcbFV db-XXyuVWE4
db-XXHZFzln db-XXyvRSSP

I have a few hundred zone files, and a few thousand of these temp files. They
appear to be created in bunches at a time, at irregular intervals ranging from
a day to a month.
What makes them appear ? What do they do for how long ? Why don't they go
away when that stops happening ?
I am sure they are safe to delete, but I wanna know why the appear.
The OS is CentOS 3.7 running the stock BIND 9.2.4

Thanks,
Mike
