Abstract:
While the amount of confidential data stored in a database has increased,
sound database security has become increasingly important. Oracle is
currently one of the most widely used database systems in the world.
However, not all the Oracle database users and researchers are satisfied
with the offered products. There is a great concern that Oracle employs
weak security practices.
The talk will provide a thorough analysis of Oracle security from a neutral
point of view. First an overview on database security will be given and
after that the focus is on Oracle security. The talk will present a wide
range of vulnerabilities discovered in Oracle products. During the talk I
will also discuss ideas how to protect databases from the threats
identified. The challenges in default installation of an Oracle database
and its patches are discussed as well.
This talk should be of interest for any Oracle database user who is seeking
to gain further insight into security issues facing Oracle.
