Did the BIOS get reset?
While I was fumbling around to find the right F-key to look at the
BIOS, the computer went into a normal boot cycle, using the most
recent SMP kernel I have. And it worked, and I am using it now.
Mysterious, at best.
It ran all last night with a uni-processor kernel. Wonder if it could
be temperature-related, although the variable-speed CPU fan has not
even shifted to medium speed, let alone high.
Waiting for it to break again. :-(
Wish that PC hardware had OS-accessible BIOS settings, the way that
SPARCstations have OpenBoot settings.
