Know what happens when "rush" and "testing" appear in the same sentence?
Bad testing and a buggy release, every time.
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 1 — Microsoft rushed what may be the final test
version of its Windows Vista operating system to more than a million
testers on Friday, trying to meet deadlines for its long-delayed
commercial release.
With pressure mounting to squeeze out final bugs, Microsoft asked
testers to give Vista an urgent shakedown — even as they headed into a
long holiday weekend.

My advice: hold off buying until release 1.3 or so. 1.0 is certain to be
remembered as a bad joke.
Probably been said already, but....
My advice, don't buy it ever.
'Course from what I'm reading, you'll have to buy a new computer (the
equivalent of a 1980 Cray) to run it anyway, and you might want to hold
off on that, too, until the situation stabilizes. The good news: keep
your old computer and put Linux on it. It'll outperform the new one with
Vista almost certainly.
... or you could just do that without all the M$ expense ...
It was kinda said already. ;)
