See? Fuckers. I think that's another reason i'm going to get as much
stuff *off* cox as possible. I should call and get dish network this
week -- it's half the price of cable.
Got a URL?
It requires flash, but http://www.dishnetwork.com
I *don't like* Cox.
I like the phone service far better than SBC. Cox is the only high-speed Internet service
I can get.
They were fine in Orange County, but here in San Diego the equipment is
intolerable. The scientific atlanta DVRs they give out down here have
firmware that could have been better-coded by a 12-year-old. So no, i
don't like them anymore either.
Not surprising. SA stole software from the company I worked for in 1995 (TV/COMM) because
we were their closest competitor. In fact, we were five years ahead of them in technology
(both hardware and software). Thanks to upper management, TV/COMM ended up going down the
toilet and little does the cable/satellite customer know, the technology and service that
became mainstream is relative crap. (I have yet to see a really good picture from any sat.
or digital cable provider). Hell, we had the capability to provide downloadable movies way
back in 1994!
Looks like for a single-TV setup, DVR, with the same channel package I
get now (expanded service with no "premium/movie" channels), i'd be
paying $35/mo. That's a hell of a lot better than $85 I'm paying right
now for all that.
I've had Dish for over six years. I've almost never had a problem. The two oldest
receivers I have are that old as well. We had another one go out, and Dish replaced it for
$60. Now we have insurance (or if you prefer, a service plan) on all the receivers and if
one goes out, then send a replacement free. The new DVRs will record two channels and
allow you to watch a third. You can skip through commercials (30-sec forward skip, 15-sec
reverse skip), the Cox DVRs do not have this feature. I also much prefer the Dish menu
system over the Cox system. The service has been much better too.
For my $80+/month I get 180 channels, plus 30 PPV, some 90 music channels, all local (San
Diego) channels, and a couple selected channels from Boston, New York, and Chicago. I can
also get NFL, MLB, NHL, Sports, and ESPN packages if I want to pay for them.
I really need to call them for my free receiver upgrades.
