By different I mean different mfg. and different type (one
a 2-port with built-in cables, one a 4 port with third party cables).
are any/both of these self powered or does one have a wallwart?
if so are you using it?
The first thought that popped into my mind is maybe there's something
about the old keyboard, and maybe it isn't getting quite the right
voltage or current from the laptop with the addition of the KVM cable.
sounds about right, ive seen this with some of the bigger KVM's
the other thing is ive found that by using one of those kbd+mouse > usb
adapters with my laptop i have less overall problems, plus it means less
cables to mess with my kvm with 3rd party cables, the usb adapter plugs
right into the KVM, and a usb to usb extender is used to plug the KVM into
my laptop
