Gotta love marketing derived names that don't give you any information, and names the cross technologies. At least you know Opteron and Athlon 64 all are x86_64. FYI, some tests I've run with woodcrest chips thus far at work do NOT always show a win for intel like they claim. In fact, if I recompile openssl, the recompiled version wins on opterons (2.8GHz vs 3GHz woodcrest). Some tools our engineers use are a bit faster on woodcrest, some a lot faster (mabye as much as 25%), some the same or slower. So the claims that Intel is just spanking amd... are mostly crap.
I hear you. I just recently got away from AMD machines because they were a bit cheeper where I shop, but I'm definitely not an Intel convert. RD -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
