I wish I was one of those people who remembered every name and place, but so much of this is just a blur. A few things I remember: * It was called KPLUG from the beginning, and I'm pretty sure the kernel-panic.com website was there first. (The name was chosen by Richard (lastname?) who owned a web hosting company in Escondido. I think that's why the website was a .com originally. Wish I wasn't so fuzzy here, I think it would be nice to remember who named the group.) * First meeting was in October 1996 was advertised in the ComputorEdge. We'd call it an installfest nowadays. It was held in an upstairs room at the Vineyard in Escondido. The Vineyard is gone, alas, so there will be no pilgrimages to the place where it all started. I was not a part of the pre-meeting organization. The meeting was very well attended, so I imagine there's quite a bit of pre-history I was not privy to.
