How about this: could I just plug this thing

I'd go for a wifi PCI NIC anyway but IPcop doesn't support wifi out of the box
and fumbling madwifi in is a lil tricky.

Probably good. I think that you have been told a few times that you
need a wireless bridge, and this is one. Others are made by Linksys,
Netgear, Dlink, and all the other usual suspects.

You just can't turn a wireless access point into a bridge without
major changes in its firmware. Unless it was designed that way, which
is not common.
