PGA's issue is tricky tho since I don't know of anything else MS Exchange
compatible. A business rival attractive enough to make companies consider
switching would be great, but my hopes lay on Novell here, so...

(Evolution is open source, right? So in general it's documented what makes
Exchange servers tick - and noone yet implemented compatibility in any
other
mail client, like KMail or so?)

The exchange server connections are there for korganizer. It is organized
such that each component makes the connections, and kmail is just a mail
client. It uses imap, just like evolution. None of them ever worked as
nicely as I would like, but I know people who use both the KDE stuff and
Evolution happily.
