The audio on my laptop to play mp3s is pretty stable.

It seems Google Video and YouTube use Flash which runs from different drivers.

Restarting X and esd don't seem to 'fix' Flash when Google Video has no sound.

How restore Flash sound then when it drops but mp3s still play fine?

Which version of the Flash player are you using? To see which one you have, put "about:plugins" (no quotes) in the address box of Firefox or Mozilla. You should be using the Beta 2 of the Flash plugin available from <http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer9/>

Also see <http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/> for more information about the audio problem.
