How make squirrelmail use maildir? Recommended? (I use Maildir

Squirrelmail uses an IMAP server to access your mail, so if you use
dovecot or courier to serve up the maildir, and configure
Squirrelmail so that it knows that you're using courier or dovecot
(using the config script from the command line) you should be good to
go.
Also, I created a new user but Squirrelmail/Courier doesn't seem to
let that
new user login for some reason.
Does the new user have a password set?
A home directory?
A maildir directory (usually ~/Maildir)?
A valid shell?
A valid UID?
