A piece of miscellaneous information that might help dispel some confusion:
In a Fedora system, there are networking configuration files that are
all hard linked together, so they are really only one file with three
names. Below is an example with only eth0 present.
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/ifcfg-eth0
