XP is *not* acceptable, and don't even mention Vista. The phone home
every time you change your hardware aspect from XP is just too
problematic under a virtual machine.
You might try buying used computers. A lot of them have the little
sticker on them with the registration number. Scrape that off and then
sell the machine again or donate it.
