Well, there's always View > Page Style > No Style.

In the case of the page referenced above, the background (stars) image
can be disabled via a menu choice on an "Images" button provided by (I
think) the "Web Developer" extension..

..but that still leaves the white on black (which is better than some
you see).

I find myself often using the "no style" option, and find plain vanila
often much better than the author's pride-joy-garbage.

I use Opera a lot, and it has a single button to switch between what
they call author and user style, which helps in this kind of case.
