A single / even including /var?

One consideration I had with the VM was to make a default image of maybe
4GB, and to be able to copy it, increase the size of the disk, and
resize or create partitions to be able to use it.  If I just create one
big / then it would be pretty tough to just resize my filesystem... I'd
probably have to do a lot of dd'ing between partitions or virtual disks,
in which case I might as well just create a new VM and install.
