You don't need to buy anything for PC-to-PC calls (assuming you can get the
other party to use a computer headset).  $30 a year for unlimited
PC-to-Phone calls is a great deal, though.  If you only need it for
this one event, you might consider buying $10 of credits.  Then,
PC-to-Phone calls debit at a rate of 2.1 cents a minute.

Skype is a great value, but it may not stay that way if Verizon
successfully sues them for patent infringement, like they recently did
with Vonage[1].

There are a few other things to dislike as well.  They are not open
source, they use a proprietary protocol, and they use peer to peer
routing which can leech your bandwidth (though traffic is encrypted to
help with privacy).
