It's obvious what's wrong: you're not using hjkl for movement.
Unfortunately, using hjkl for movement in insert mode has some serious

Moving the cursor while in insert mode ought to cause some serious
side effects. Extreme verbal abuse would be an appropriate start...

Exiting insert mode can move your hands as much as just using the
arrow keys, and it can be more tedious to have to switch modes twice
just to reposition the cursor.

Um.... what sort of keyboard are you using? I can hit <escape> with
my little finger (or with control-[), which is a LOT less movement
than moving my hands to the arrow keys. You must have a really funky
keyboard if it's easier to use the arrow keys than to hit escape,
do your movement, and then hit i or a. Two additional keystrokes
and no moving your hands from the home row.

Now, if you're right hand is on the mouse instead of the keyboard,
then meyabe, but you then have much larger problems....

Anyone know how to remap the keys *only* in vim? It would be nice to switch [Esc] and [Caps Lock]. Then again, it might not be so bad to swap those two keys in Linux itself (well, in *my* installation I mean).
