Ahhh, I bet you may have gotten thrown by the fact that "special"
characters such as '.' are _not_ special within character classes -- the
square braketdy-delimited thingies.
That may well have been the deal.
And/or maybe that shell patterns are much different animals -- allowing
only '?' and '*' wildcards.
Heh, yeah, I think that was part of it too.
(It may take me a while to get all these straight. Even though it's
been years, I'm still used to DOS usage, as well as a limited exposure
to Amiga wildcards (which, IIRC, worked the way they should (as opposed
to DOS)).)
