I am resigning as sysadmin here at DrJays due to accepting another position and I want to help these guys find a worthy successor. I have done a lot of cool stuff here and built some nice infrastructure and I don't want them to hire some wanker who will fsck it all up.
The company is located in San Diego (Camino Santa Fe between Miramar and Mira Mesa) with an office in New York which you might have to visit once or twice a year.
The work environment is very fun as are the people. Laid back, easy going, a few more "yo momma" jokes than might be strictly professional but that's part of what makes it cool. I hate to leave this job and wouldn't be leaving if I hadn't been offered a director level position elsewhere. I have no complaints and only good things to say.
They have some very nice network and server infrastructure (thanks to yours truly). They are all Linux on the server side of things, mostly Linux on the desktop side of things (two LTSP servers in two different offices in San Diego) with a smattering of Macs (mostly in the New York office although a few in the photo department here in San Diego). Around 40 or so LTSP thin client workstations in the whole company. Spread evenly between customer service and the warehouse. They are a Perl shop so if you have Perl skills you will fit in nicely but I have planted the Python bug and they have a Plone intranet site which could use some customizations including custom Plone Archetypes. So if you know either one or both it's a plus.
The only Windows boxes in the company are a couple of machines for running Fedex's shipping software and those exist only because Fedex's web API sucks so badly. We hope to be able to throw them off the roof someday when the web API improves.
They have an Asterisk PBX system and company wide VOIP network so if you have any Asterisk/VOIP experience that would be good too.
I have had tons of work to do here and the project list that I will leave behind remains quite long. They will be looking to hire a couple of junior sysadmins in the near future also so you will probably have a couple guys to supervise eventually. The hours are flexible which is very nice. I usually roll in around 10am and leave late as well.
As a policy they don't post the salary for their positions but hey are only hurting themselves by not attracting quality people who only bother applying for a job when they know it pays and I'm going to be out of here soon anyway so I'll go ahead and tell you: A senior system administrator qualified to successfully run this joint can expect anywhere in the range between 90 and 110k depending on their experience.
Feel free to email me with any other questions. If you want to apply send me your resume and I will forward it to the right person at DrJays with some nice words if I have something nice to say about you :).
