Then yell at WebCT. The fact that WebCT uses a proprietary plugin has nothing to do with Apple. You do need to choose your targets.

One other "interesting" thing about WebCT is that it has a chat
feature that isn't nearly as good as IRC with something like xchat -
when it works - which is about 50% of the time. Sigh.

So, it creates its own chat system rather than using any of the existing chat systems that it seems everybody knows? They never learn.

I'm forwarding your comments about WebCT to my teacher. He already
drank the Kool-Aid, though.

The problem I have with these systems is that they never actually *help*. They just replace one set of problems (the ability to write HTML) with another set of problems (navigating an isanely complex GUI).

As a high school English teacher, my late father absolutely *hated* these systems. They never helped him teach.

He used word processors *immediately*.

He used spreadsheets for grades somewhat later after I prodded him (and was glad he did once No Child Left Behind started--he never had to do any extra grading work while everybody else was going nuts).

He really tried to like Moodle as he really wanted the ability to create online quizzes and practice. But the requirement of having actually administer a LAMP stack was just too much. I don't know how you cross that gap.
