The original comment was ironic declaring that the GPL is a benefit
because it prevents sponging off the open source movement when, in fact,
the Gtk/Qt fiasco was one of the original free vs. open source dramas.
And it was Trolltech sponging off of the open source movement.
The is especially poignant considering it was Gtk/Gnome that managed to
present enough of a threat to get Trolltech to actually switch to a
multiple license model for Qt.
One thing people forget is that Trolltech still controls the copyright
on Qt. It can legally revoke the GPL license on Qt *any time it chooses*.
It is also true that the LGPL license could be revoked on Gnome;
however, the Gnome Foundation provides an extra later of protection
against a single company being able to do that.
