I don't recommend SBLive! anymore for Linux. Too many different variations. If you have a retail version, it may be okay. But if you've got a white box OEM version, there are too many differences in them, and it's hit or miss on getting it to work and stay working.

In fact, white box versions with included driver CD often don't even work properly in Windows.

Instead, I've gone to the Audigy 2Z series exclusively for both Linux and Windows (I have a couple of dual-boot boxes).

Stay away from the new SB Live! Digital series also, they are a part from yet another competitor gobbled up by Creative, have an oddball chipset, and so don't work (last time I tried ~1 yr. ago) at all in Linux, although there is supposed to be a beta Linux driver around.

Otherwise, all I can say is, "Good luck".
