I never could get my head around it because the word I wanted to type never got shown properly as I was typing it. I never could get around that mental block that I had to backspace when it outputs the wrong letter or word when I wanted to type something completely different. I can't get used to it.

Personally, if I wanted to text message someone on my phone, it's not going to be very long, and I can deal with ten-keying it in. Besides, my phone has a full QWERTY (Or Sholes layout, for the JHRIV-impaired :D) keyboard so it's a non-issue anyways. That, combined with the fact that I rarely send text messages, makes it even more of a non-issue.
