The locked up X session may be the mouse locked up (even
though the pointer moves). The only things that work on the
frozen X session are the clock and the motion of the mouse
pointer. The mouse pointer icon does not change regardless of
what it hovers over.

The X session locked up specifically when I was trying to drag
an icon from the launch bar to an open drawer (also on the
launch bar). During the drag, the icon (represented by an
approximation of a piece of paper with shadowed text on it)
being dragged got stuck halfway between the two drag points.
The drag path was diagonal in direction and took it over the
Mozilla browser window (which happened to be on top because of
something I was trying to look up). The mouse pointer
continues to look like the top and left edges of a picture
frame with a big plus where a picture would be framed by it.
It still moves freely. The "piece of paper" icon got stuck on
the Mozilla browser titlebar. Ctrl-Alt-Delete does *not* give
me the logout dialog. Ctrl-Alt-RightArrow does *not* move to
the next workspace. Ctrl-Alt-F1 (and the like) *do* work.

This is *not* the first time this has happened, but it is so
rare and inconsistent (as far as I can tell) that I keep
forgetting about it. Perhaps I can restart some service
without disturbing Mozilla?
