I'm interested. I would love to hear more about your experiences playing
with NixOS also. I wish I had time to install it into one of my xen
domains but I don't have time for anything at the moment.
I have just had an afternoon worth of enlightenment playing with
NixOS. I keep waiting for Ariadne to turn up, but then realize that
she is on Naxos.
After several false starts, I managed to change the timezone of the
installation. Chapter 4 "List of Options" in the NixOS Manual states:
time.timeZone
The time zone used when displaying times and dates.
Default: "CET"
Example: "America/New_York"
Much fumbling later, I finally deduce that when translated into the
syntax of the "configuration.nix" file this should look like, e.g:
time = {
timeZone = "America/Los_Angeles";
};
It seems best not to change the configuration file during the first
system build any more than the minimum needed to specify boot, root,
and swap devices . After the first build I could change the time zone
and add another mounted file system, and then rebuild.
All the sample configuration files that I could find on or near the
NixOS web site belong to computers that live in Central European Time.
Syntax of the configuration file is not entirely clear as to when
entries are bracketed [ ], when braced { }, and whether semicolons are
separators or terminators. But I suppose it is a learning experience.
