I still remember downloading the floppy sets for SLS (I think they were "a", "b", "d" and "x", but memory fails) and installing, answering "y" or "n" for every package. tedious, and I got 800x600 2- bit grayscale in X. But it was so cool...

I was lucky... I got to download them via the network link from the school-supplied computer in the dorm room (an AT&T 286 diskless PC wired up via AT&T StarLAN to some hideous server, but it had NCSA Telnet installed, and that was all I needed.)
